INDUSTRY
Smart city (surveillance)
BACKGROUND
An IP-based CCTV surveillance system was implemented along a 50-km railway line with 11 tunnels and 16 bridges. The solution enables comprehensive monitoring of stations, passenger areas, and critical rail infrastructure including bridges, tunnel entrances, and yards, delivering real-time video to local control rooms and centralized monitoring centers through a fiber-based network.
CHALLENGES
Deploying CCTV industrial PoE switches in this line was challenging because of:
- Tunnel-heavy terrain + extreme weather
- High power & redundancy needs
- Difficult maintenance conditions
- Mandatory compliance with standards and integration with existing system
SOLUTION PROVIDED
The rugged, wide-temperature
EHG7508-4PoE-4SFP switches were selected for deployment along the corridor, offering the following key advantages:
- Industrial-ready design – DIN-rail mountable with high EMC resistance, engineered for reliable deployment in industrial infrastructure.
- Wide operating temperature range (–40 °C to +75 °C) – Ensures stable performance in the cold and humid tunnel conditions of this region.
- Fanless rugged metal housing – IP30 rated, dust-resistant and with no moving parts, reducing maintenance needs in restricted and hard-to-access tunnel environments.
The switches were deployed in a ring topology, with each ring configured with a dedicated management VLAN for network control and separate VLANs for CCTV and SOS/PA services. This segmentation ensured efficient traffic handling while maintaining clear service prioritization across the network.
RESULTS
Despite the extreme weather conditions, system stability was successfully improved through on-site troubleshooting and optimized grounding and configuration practices. As a result, the network infrastructure now operates with stable and reliable performance.
